WHO WE ARE

The Nutrition and Physical Activity (NPA) work group is a collaboration of stakeholders throughout Polk County who have come together to work towards reducing the rate of obesity in Polk County by promoting physical activity and consumption of healthy foods and beverages.  PolkCountyOnTheMove.org was created to highlight all the wonderful free and inexpensive physical activity opportunities that are available right here in Polk County.  In the future, we will be expanding the website to include information about biking, skiing, snow shoeing and swimming opportunities as well as information about County parks.

The NPA is housed within Polk United, a coalition of concerned stakeholders throughout Polk County working to improve the health of all Polk County residents in a variety of areas including obesity prevention, mental health, substance abuse prevention and tobacco prevention.  For more information about Polk United, please visit http://polkunited.org.

Our Mission

To engage stakeholders who will take collaborative action to create a healthier Polk County. We envision a vital, health Polk County in 2018, in which resources and collaboration are maximized. Healthy Polk County leadership efforts will be centralized, sustainable and strong because of diverse community involvement. Access to care and resources will be readily accessible. Individual and family efforts to seek good health will be fully supported and will be an accepted part of life.

History

Polk United was established in 2013 as an expansion of Polk County’s Nutrition and Physical Activity Coalition (NPA), funding that the coalition and Polk County Health Department received from the Community Transformation Grant Fund provided an opportunity to expand the coalition and complete new strategic plan. Strategic planning was completed in early 2013 and the Polk United: healthier together name and logo was selected shortly after.
